Those of you that don’t know, Sam is a local San Diegan with a very entertaining cooking show on Discovery Health and the Padre Channel 4. He has a book too so go check that out!
For those of you who didn’t see the first video Sam the Cooking Guy waltzed right into an awkward situation on the Today Show. And he thought he was just going for a cooking demonstration…
First Time Around
Kathie Lee and Hoda Kotb was in for one heck of a surprise as their usual subjugation over the guest’s segment took a 180 as Sam the Cooking guy stopped them in mid-sentence and asked for one minute of silence so he could do his thing (and subsequently called them out for doing so on others!).
As if the above episode wasn’t awkward and rude enough, they invited him BACK to the Today show this morning and they seeked vindication for Sam’s ‘transgressions’ on the previous episode. They even brought in an etiquette expert! Check it out:
Second Time Around, August 8, 2008
In my opinion Kathy and Hoda, you guys just seemed more rude than ever and I don’t mean in an entertaining way. I’m glad Sam took the initiative and defended himself on national TV while you guys snickered at him and played stupidly coy afterwards. Your loyal audience is not a dumb crowd, they know some genuinely rude people when they see it and it does not make for good TV. I hope the next time he gets invited back to NY for NBC it’s for his own show that runs right over your time segment.
Sam is the one that has been rude to Hoda and Kathie Lee. He came back on today and still defended his rude behavior. He should have apologized and been done with it, but he just had to keep at it by offering the ladies cupcakes to put in their mouths so they would not be able to talk. He is not very classy and is not even that great of a cook/chef. His recipes are old news.
I’ve had food personally prepared from his hands. He is an excellent cook but not a gourmet chef, not his style. His recipes in his new cookbook is a nice deviation from the typical. It’s not trying hard to be something unique. They are simple recipes that work and often times with an equally simple (but cool) twist. What’s great is that the whole show was directed towards making Sam apologize (IMO) and I’m glad he didn’t. They brought him on there the first couple times so he could prepare some food to share with the audience so to hush them up so he could do his thing was a bold move but I don’t think it was rude of him. It did seem to offend both the hosts personally so I’m not surprised they brought him back to try to get at him again.
Oh come on, they were stepping all over him. They invite him on and can’t stop running their mouths. Face it, they’re afraid of silence. There’s a native American tradition that says that the longer you take to contemplate what someone says before talking, the greater the sign of respect. When they immediately have to run their mouths, it means they didn’t really bother to consider what he had to say. They’re typical of most people today.
it’s ridiculous. I think he could have brought them diamonds and roses to apologize (but I’m glad he didn’t) and they still would have been like that. I think they felt embarrassed by the first time and wanted to embarrass him no matter what. he still came off great.
Agreed foodie, that’s exactly how I felt. That was definitely a ‘revenge’ episode. I knew they had a elitist attitude towards their guests but not being a consistent watcher, I hope that not all of their guests endure a punishment like that when they go on the show.
Kathie Lee and Hoda are beyond obnoxious. I thought what he said was right on! They need to shut up and let their guests talk…otherwise they don’t really need guests.
Sam the Cooking Guy rocks! I wish more guests would take on Kathie Lee. I can’t stand her.
One of the main reasons I don’t watch Hoda and Kathie Lee is that the two of them just run their mouths constantly………… especially Kathie Lee. I don’t find Sam to be a particularly inspiring guy but no way could he seem to get a world in with them yammering, so he spoke up. Maybe a bit on the rude side, but understandable. He’s right that he didn’t do anything that most of us wouldn’t do under similar circumstances in our own homes. Must admit though, my Mom would have whacked me one I’d ever done that to her, no matter how much she was running on. I guess that’s probably the lesson here…… if you wouldn’t do it to your Mom, don’t do it.
